Frequently Asked Questions – Independent Wedding Celebrant Scotland

Below you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our ceremonies with Axial, your independent wedding celebrant in Scotland. If you don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, there’s absolutely no obligation.

Weddings:

Where can your celebrants marry us in Scotland?

Anywhere you like! From a beach or hillside to your own back garden,  the choice is completely yours.

Can you perform weddings outside of Scotland?

No, our celebrants are authorised to conduct legal weddings only within Scotland.

Do we still need to go to the Registry Office?

Yes, you will have to contact the registry office nearest your wedding venue in order to submit your M10 forms.

Can we include hymns, music, or prayers?

Absolutely. Our ceremonies can include hymns, prayers, or readings if you wish — or none at all. It’s your ceremony, your way.

How are you different from Humanist or religious celebrants?

Our celebrants offer flexibility. Unlike religious figures, we don’t follow one faith, and unlike Humanists, we’re open to spiritual or religious elements if you’d like them.

How far in advance should we book?

We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for summer and weekend dates, to secure your chosen celebrant.

What paperwork do we need for a legal wedding in Scotland?

You’ll need to complete marriage notice forms (M10) and provide required documents to the local registrar at least 29 days before your wedding. We can guide you through this.

Funerals:

Can your celebrants conduct both religious and non-religious funerals?

Yes. We create services that reflect the person’s life and values, whether that’s religious, spiritual, or entirely non-religious.

Where can a funeral or memorial take place?

Almost anywhere, from a crematorium or burial ground to a family home, garden, or other meaningful place.

Do you work with funeral directors?

Yes. We’re experienced in working alongside funeral directors to make everything run smoothly for families.

How much input do families have in the ceremony?

As much as you wish. We’ll guide you, but the words, music, and tone of the service are shaped around your loved one and your family.

Can we include personal tributes, poems, or music?

Of course. We’ll help weave these elements into a service that truly honours the person’s life.

Do you provide memorials as well as funerals?

Yes, we can create memorial ceremonies, scattering of ashes ceremonies, or anniversary services if a full funeral isn’t possible or desired.
